At MGWFilms, we’ve been fortunate to build a long-standing working relationship with one of the world’s most successful crime writers, Peter James.
Over the years, we’ve created a wide range of video content for Peter- producing engaging social media posts and helping shape the visual identity of his YouTube presence. Many of these videos are still live today and continue to connect with audiences around the world via his YouTube channel.
But beyond the regular content creation, some of the most rewarding work has come from documenting the wider world of crime and thriller writing.
We’ve filmed hundreds of interviews with leading authors in the genre- capturing conversations both remotely and in person. Our shoots have taken us across London, including filming in Peter’s Knightsbridge apartment, as well as at his home in Sussex.
One standout experience was filming at the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival 2018. Over the course of the festival, we interviewed a huge number of attending writers, creating a valuable archive of insights from some of the biggest names in crime fiction.
Alongside event coverage, we’ve also produced many of Peter’s one-to-one interviews. These include conversations with high-profile figures such as Joan Collins, a fantastic example of the kind of engaging, personality-driven content we love to create.

Today, we’re revisiting one of our favourite pieces- a “day in the life” of a crime/thriller writer.
It’s a great example of what we aim to do at MGWFilms:
create documentary-style content that feels authentic, but also entertaining.
There’s a natural storytelling approach, combined with a lightness of touch that keeps the audience engaged—something we believe is key to successful video content today.
